This week is busy, and so is my husband. I’m grateful he works hard, and grateful we make a really good team, but it’s busy.
Someone I follow on Instagram had a picture of himself alone on a summit. It was a beautiful picture. In the caption he said he thinks it’s strange when people say they run for alone time because it’s something that he has never lacked. My first thought was, step into my shoes and you will not think it’s strange. Sometimes all I dream about is a far-away place, all alone. And no one else is there expecting things of me. Hopefully I’m not alone on this? (Please don’t read this the wrong way- I love my life like crazy and would not have it any other way.)
I’ve talked to you about getting up early before, but let’s talk about it again. Every mom needs a head start on their kids every day, and everybody needs ‘me time.’
My life from sun-up to sun-down is full of distractions- someone needs help tying (or untying) shoes, or a science project, responsibilities in my roll at church, meals, laundry and ironing for 6, this new blogging project of mine, parent/teacher conferences, emails, carpools, practices, rehearsals, the list goes on and doesn’t end.
And this isn’t the case just for mothers, but for everyone- work responsibilities, family, all of it. Life is hectic.
Luckily, before sun-up, I have a time all my own. In the dark, in the quiet, just me. I sweat, my endorphins flow, I’m breathing fresh outdoor air. It’s the best. If I had the ability to give this gift to every person out there, I would.
Do not let your love of sleep keep this away from you. You have the rest of your life to sleep. One of my favorite quotes is,
Find a friend to go with you, set ten alarms, get a new outfit- do anything that helps you get up in the morning to enjoy this peaceful time. When you get home, you’ll be ready to take on your day.
It doesn’t take long for a behavior to become a habit. Your body clock will adjust. You will start to look forward to this time (like yours truly) and you’ll wonder what you ever did without it. I promise.
