This is what’s been on my mind lately:
I am a mother of four who enjoys to run. I am not a future Olympian chasing a gold medal. It has always seemed a little silly to me that I (not anyone else) get a running coach, but the more I run around and the more runners I meet, the more I realize how common it is.
I have been chasing a PR for 3 years. At what point do I surrender? Do I really NEED a coach? You’d think with all the reading I’ve done and with 8 years of marathon running experience I have that I’d have a PR (since baby number 4) in the bag by now.
I know exactly where I’m lacking and what I need to work on. Yet, it remains.
What do you think?
Can I do this on my own?
It'll satisfy your curiosity and it'll give you a different perspective (someone else's). Why not try it?
I think getting a new perspective and new ideas could be beneficial! If nothing at all it will be experience, a fresh outlook and information that you can share with your readers! I'm interested in working with a coach so I would love to know if it's truly beneficial. Thank you for your wonderful blog!
What is PR?
I'm not an elite runner either but was in a similar situation as you after having my second baby. I wanted to be a better, more efficient runner and had some time goals I wanted to conquer. I tried it on my own with books and other educational info but ultimately I decided I wanted a coach so that I had someone looking at my running efforts from a detached position and challenging me in ways I wasn't doing myself. I ended u working with her through my third pregnancy and, after this baby, have crushed the time goals I set and am surprising myself at how much stronger I am and how much faster I can be. Sometimes it's just allowing someone else to call the shots and pushing your body to do it, no matter what (without injury, of course) that can take us to the next level. She's also opened my eyes to signals my body is giving me that I need an extra rest day or two that I've never paid attention to before, but these extra days, here and there, have allowed me to come back stronger to the next workout. Coaches aren't just for elites! They can be a very necessary addition to your running game when trying to reach specific goals that seem to allude us! Good luck!
I am positive you can train & meet goals without hiring a coach. It starts with commitment & self belief. Use dr. Google to search out a training plan/speed workouts. Those things when done right, are game changers. You can do it!
