Let me preface this by saying: I am NO nutrition expert. Not even close. I try to lead a healthy, balanced lifestyle, but I also don’t have any strict rules for my family or me. I don’t count macros or carbs or protein or sugars (I probably should and might get there one day!) I’m just a mom in 2015 doing the best she can. Also, this happened to be on two nights in a row that we ate out. If we hadn’t eaten out, we’d be eating either a Blue Apron meal (click here to see my post on Blue Apron) or a meal cooked by me. Okay, you’ve been warned.
I was taking a picture of my breakfast and one of the boys said, “Why are you taking a picture of your food? That’s weird.” I said, “I’m gonna put on my blog what I eat. And did you know that there are Instagram accounts dedicated entirely to people taking pictures of their food?” They both replied, “That is so weird. Why would anyone care what anyone else eats.” Me: “I know, it’s weird. But they do.”
I get asked frequently what I eat, so I thought I’d share with you everything I ate Monday and Tuesday. If you don’t care, I’m sorry to bore you! I wanted to do two days because my days can be very different. Some days I eat at home, some days I eat out, some days I get all of my vegetables, some days I don’t. Some days I eat in a hurry, sometimes I sit down and enjoy it.
I started out with a protein ball (recipe from Clean Simple Eats– click here to see my post about her eating plan) and a Kroger Morning Boost drink mix packet in a big cup of water. I drank half of the water before my run with the protein ball.
When I got home from my run, I made the kids breakfast while I sipped the rest of my drink and then made my breakfast: 3 eggs whites and 1 whole egg, half banana and sliced strawberries, and a bowl of Maple Brown Sugar Instant Oatmeal.
By 11:40 I was already feeling ready for lunch, but the kids and I (Monday was their last day of Fall Break) were running out the door to run an errand so I grabbed a pear and a hard-boiled egg to tide me over until we got home.
2 slices of chicken breast, a thin slice of cheese, some crackers, green beans with almonds, and mashed sweet potatoes (I roast the sweet potatoes whole, then mash them with coconut oil and Truvia.) The carrots and cucumber were out for the kids’ lunch so I put some on my plate, too. Not pictured: a tall glass of lemon water.
At 1:45 I slowly drank a Red Bull. I should probably leave this out because I don’t want to be a bad example, but my kids were home all day and I wanted to be a happy mom. I do not have one everyday. I have one about once a week. As I have gotten older, I have learned that most adults have a vice, and this is mine. I figure it could be worse, right?
At 3:30 I had an apple and 2Tbsp almond butter. I usually don’t measure my food unless I’m trying to lose weight, but I always do with nut butters because I tend to go overboard. Also had more water.
Dinner time that night got a little crazy, and B drove through In ‘N Out and brought it home to everyone. I ordered what I always order: a protein style cheeseburger with ketchup, mustard, pickle only. I also got fries and a coke. I only had a couple of sips of coke and then put the rest down the drain. It satisfied my inevitable post-dinner sweet tooth. I did finish my fries, though. Maybe I have two vices: caffeine and fries.
Not very exciting right?
Tuesday started out exactly the same as Monday (except instead of running I went to a fitness class at Core Body Pilates.) Protein ball and drink mix, then the same breakfast when I got home.
Around 11:00 I was hungry so I had a bowl of Cheerio’s with (Lactaid) 1% milk. I would guess that it was about two cups of Cheerios and one cup of milk. Forgot to snap a photo!
At 2:30 I was ready to eat again, but I had to grab Lou from preschool so I quickly made a PB and honey sandwich. Oh yea, and a V8 energy. #vice
Sorry guys, today isn’t looking so good.
It was another crazy night with dance for Posey and skateboarding for Connor, so when I picked up Connor, I took him, Cash, and Lou to Chipotle for dinner. I got what I always get: a burrito bowl with white rice, black beans, pico, cheese, and easy guacamole. I eat it with chips (I ate about half the bag.)
I ate about 3/4 of it.
There you have it. Maybe it’s all wrong, but I wanted to be completely honest.
Tell me what you eat!
