Remember when I used to blog 4-5 times a week?
Last week was crazy, but I’m back. Promise this time.
I thought Mondays would be a good day to go over my training for the previous week, so let’s begin.
First, the sunrises were out of control last week. So pretty! It just doesn’t get old.
Monday was an 8 mile run with a fast finish (1:06:45, 8:20 avg)
Tuesday was an 8 mile easy run finished with a handful of strides at 5K/10K pace (1:10:52, 8:51 avg) First time doing strides. I feel official now.
Wednesday was a 9 mile interval workout with a 2 mile warm up and a 2 mile cool down (1:18:49, 8:45 avg.) The intervals were varying amounts of time, some short, some long, but there were lots. This workout was hard.
Thursday was a 5 mile run (45:50, 9:09 avg.) I didn’t read the pace assigned by my coach on the Training Peaks app, so I assumed that I should take it easy. Turns out I was supposed to run it at an 8:00 minute pace. Oops. My legs felt a little heavy in the beginning- probably because of Wednesday’s workout.
Friday was long run… 12 miles (1:43:12, 8:36 avg) I started slow and honestly, felt really crappy in the first few miles. I can say this now, but I haven’t had a successful long run, where I have felt great and strong and fast, in a really long time… probably since the early summer. The first few crappy miles made me nervous- I was thinking it was going to end badly. At mile five I headed into a gas station (my typical Circle K stop), visited the restroom real fast, and waited in line to buy a gatorade. I drank about 8 oz. of gatorade and headed out to finish the last 7. I don’t know what it was, but after that pit stop my miles got faster and by the end, I felt fantastic. Yes, it was only a 12 mile long run, but it was a success and that’s what I am focusing on right now.
And since training is fully under way, you can expect some more early morning gas station bathroom selfies:
Since the weather has become colder, after every run, I always: head into my room, put on some comfy clothes, come out to the family room, turn on the fire, and snuggle up under a blanket on the couch while I beg my boys for just five minutes before I make their breakfast. After my long run on Friday, Connor had two (yes, two) book reports to finish before I took him to school (whole different story) so I let the girls sleep in and took the kids to school late. Lou spotted me on the couch when she woke up and curled up right next to me under my comfy blanket. The best.
Saturday’s run was an easy 4 miles on the treadmill at home (6.7 mph, 1.0 incline.) B and the boys were out of town, so running outside wasn’t an option. The girls played in the toy room across the hall and afterwards I stretched while they played some more.
I’d say it was a successful week. My hunger always steps it up a notch when I approach 45+ miles a week and I’ve been feeling it. My goal is always to make every calorie count and to drink lots of water.
Lots to accomplish this week in between a handful of parties and lots of shopping. I didn’t go to the gym once last week because it was so crazy, but this week I am determined not to miss my strength and yoga classes.
Cross your fingers that this week is more calm than last (wishful thinking.)
