Did I ever tell you the story of how running all of the Marathon Majors came about? Well, it was a goal that I eventually wanted to accomplish, but was gonna focus on it after I completed all of the continents. But… timing for running The Great Wall of China Marathon didn’t work because of B’s schedule, so he suggested Tokyo. Knowing it was a Major, and knowing that my mom had lived there for three years as a child (my Granddad was in the Air Force for 25+ years), I was on board and so so very excited.
Then… during the summer, my friend Jenesey (who also happens to be an amazing runner) said, “I’m putting in for London tomorrow with or without you. Are you in?” She knew that I couldn’t resist. So we put in that day and were drawn. That’s when I realized: I would only be one race away from running all of the Majors (Berlin)!
This morning, Jenesey and I leave for London and B will hold down the fort at home (he’s such a good dad.)
Here’s a couple photos of me and Jenesey for you to enjoy.
We’ve run three SeaWheeze half marathons together. Funny story- the only one I was able to stay with her for the whole race was this past year and that’s because she hadn’t been fully training and I was training my buns off (she’s crazy fast.) We also ran the NYC Marathon together in 2013 (didn’t stay together, but both ran it.)
And here’s us with my sister-in-law Lisa at the 2014 Chicago Marathon. She ran a 3:30 and we were her cheerleaders (I had run Sydney and St. George that year already.)
Off we go!
