I used to have this ritual of sitting down with my calendar before every training cycle and write out my training plan. (For marathons 2-20ish I used Bart Yasso’s training plans.) My ritual served many purposes, but mainly, it meant that I was geared up and motivated for what was to come.
I haven’t done that in ages.
Last night, I had a strong urge to do it. This is a good sign! I just got home from a week long cruise with my crew and I came back feeling refreshed.
I have been in a funk lately; lacking direction in my running and in my blog, and have been digging deep to figure out the purpose of it all. I want to continue running. Of course. And I want to continue blogging. But what to do with this blog?
I kept going back to my original family blog (most of you know I used to have a family blog that morphed into a running/family blog.) I didn’t write advice or tips. I just wrote about my feelings about running, races, and my life as a runner, and shared products that I genuinely thought everyone should knew about. And I didn’t worry about people getting offended if I mentioned something personal or family related. It came naturally. It was more of an expression than a chore. I think that’s what works for me and I think that’s what I’m gonna do.
So, kudos to those of you who have stuck with me through my rut. I don’t plan on going anywhere. Actually, I plan on going lots of places, but this blog will stay nice and cozy in this spot right here.
